About 25 minutes’ drive. The venue is at 38 Tuscan Court, Thomastown, in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. Travel time changes with traffic, so check your maps app before you set off, especially in peak hour.

That is not a long trip, but it is long enough that people ask whether it is worth it when there are venues in the city. This page answers that honestly. For some clients the CBD makes more sense. For others the north is the better fit.

Why would I drive north instead of going to a CBD venue?

It comes down to three practical things: where you park, who sees you arrive, and what you pay. Here is how each one works at Oriental Plums.

Parking

Anyone who has driven into the city at night knows the drill: find a spot, feed a meter or pay for a car park, then walk to the door. At Oriental Plums there is secure undercover parking right out the front. You pull in, and the door is a few steps away.

If you drive for work or you are coming from the northern or outer suburbs, that alone can decide it. Our parking and access page has the details.

Privacy

Many city venues sit on busy streets, where walking in means walking past people. A suburban venue with its own undercover parking works differently. The entry and exit are discreet, and you are not queuing on a footpath.

Prices

We can’t speak for what other venues charge. What we can do is show ours. The full price list is published, cash and card rates are both listed, and there are no hidden surcharges.

A small prepayment deposit may apply for certain packages, and it goes toward the service. Diamond Service is the premium tier; ask reception what it includes. Compare these numbers with whatever city venue you are considering, and add the cost of city parking to their side of the ledger.

When does the CBD make more sense?

If you are staying in a city hotel without a car, or you only have a short window between meetings, a CBD venue may simply be easier. A 25-minute drive each way adds nearly an hour to your evening. That is a fair trade for some people and not for others.

The north makes more sense if you have a car, if you live or work north of the river, or if parking and privacy matter more to you than being walking distance from your hotel. Is it worth combining with something else up north?

For some clients the drive makes more sense when it is part of a longer evening. If you are already heading to the northern suburbs for dinner, work or to see friends, stopping in Thomastown adds very little. Our post on nightlife in Melbourne’s north covers what else is around.

It also works well at the end of a night in the city. Because the venue is open until 3am Sunday to Thursday and 4am on Friday and Saturday, you can finish dinner or drinks in town and still have time for a full session. Just don’t drive if you have been drinking. Get a lift or a ride instead, and give reception the new arrival time.

A small thing that city visitors often miss: cash is cheaper. A 60-minute Full Service is $245 in cash and $280 on card. Taking cash out before you leave town saves $35 on that session.

What is Oriental Plums like?

Oriental Plums is a licensed venue (SWA 551B). The ladies are mainly from Asian countries, and new girls arrive every week. The roster on the Our Girls page marks who is on today, who is coming soon and who has just arrived, and you can ask for a specific lady when you book.
